Bennet Statement on Trump Administration Decision to End Temporary Protected Status for Hondurans

Statement

Date: May 4, 2018
Location: Washington, DC

Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet today issued the following statement in response to the Trump administration's decision to end temporary protected status (TPS) for Hondurans:

"Tens of thousands of Hondurans have lived lawfully in our country for decades with temporary protected status--paying taxes, contributing to our economy, and supporting their families. The administration's decision forces hardworking individuals--many of whom are parents to children who are U.S. citizens--back to a country challenged by violence, poverty, and limited resources. It also undermines our stability and security in Central America. Rather than ending TPS for Hondurans, we should extend it."

Bennet has sent letters to the administration calling for an extension of TPS for Hondurans three times over the past year--most recently in April, and previously in July and October of 2017.
